Circulation Manager at Springfield-Greene County Library District, (Springfield, MO)

POSITION: Circulation Manager
LOCATION: Schweitzer Brentwood – 2214 Brentwood Boulevard – Springfield, MO

RATE OF PAY: $40,560.00 per year

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week. Candidates must be available to work primarily weekday daytime hours, but also 2-4 weekend days per month and 1-2 evenings per week. Current library hours are Monday through Thursday 8:30am – 9:00pm, Friday 8:30am – 8:00pm, Saturday 8:30am – 7:00pm, and Sunday 10:00am – 6:00pm. As a condition of employment, work schedules may change as necessary to best provide user services and to meet the Library’s responsibility to the citizens of Greene County.

This position requires a BS/BA degree in a related field.

Essential Functions

  • Assumes responsibility for daily operations of the Circulation Department
  • Responsible for overseeing Circulation and Paging staff including performance reviews and development
  • Schedules staff and volunteers to assure productivity and high levels of patron service
  • Audits and approves time sheets for bi-weekly payroll
  • Assists with interviewing and selection of circulation and paging staff
  • Coordinates all department services in compliance with system policies and procedures
  • Performs regular circulation functions
  • Accountable for all monies collected in the Circulation Department
  • Acts as PIC (Person In Charge) – will be the building manager as assigned, handling safety and security matters as they arise
  • Participates on Circulation Committee
  • Assists other library departments as needed including support in the gift shop when gift shop staff or volunteers are unavailable
  • Interprets and implements the Library’s General Conduct Policy
  • Timeliness: The employee must be punctual and timely in arriving to work and completing tasks. The employee must also be capable of working all of the hours in their assigned shift.
  • Ability to work with others and the general public: It is essential that individual who works in this position have the ability to work and interact in a cooperative, pleasant, and constructive manner with others.
  • This job description is not intended to be all inclusive; employee may be required to perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the Library. These duties may include tasks such as compiling branch circulation statistics, processing voter registration, serving as a Passport Acceptance Agent, planning and presenting staff training, etc.

Education/Experience

  • BS/BA degree
  • Library experience preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred

Skills/Job Knowledge

  • Supervisory skills
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written
  • Familiarity with electronic/digital products provided by the Library
  • Thorough knowledge of circulation functions and library policies
  • Computer and keyboard skills
  • Performs essential functions during high patron volume

Contact

  • Regular, daily, complex public contact
  • Work closely with other department managers both inside the Library Branch and across the Library District
  • Work closely with other department personnel
  • Routine telephone contact with patrons and system staff

Supervision

  • Supervise circulation and paging department staff
  • Supervised by branch manager

Physical Demands

  • Performs bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching from floor level to 6 feet in height
  • May stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Routine lifting of library materials weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • Displays good coordination and mobility

Working Environment

  • Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general library environment

Miscellaneous Requirements

  • Must pass a security background check
