Web & User Experience Librarian, Boston University Libraries, Boston MA

The Boston University Libraries are seeking a Web & User Experience Librarian to ensure a user-centered web presence and deliver on the continuous improvement of our websites. This role will be instrumental in the Libraries’ website redesign process and ongoing relevancy of our sites, with a focus on content strategy and site architecture, all in service of providing a usable, accessible, and welcoming web presence. Working closely with colleagues in Library Technology & Discovery Services and Access Services & Library Experience, this position will structure and lead user experience activities for our websites and core library systems to evaluate and respond to our user needs. In collaboration with the Library Communications Manager and content creators across all library units, this position will organize content strategy and publishing guidelines to produce current, relevant, and usable information for our diverse patron community.

Responsibilities

  • Administer content creation and publishing within libraries web content management systems (such as WordPress, SpringShare platforms).
  • Provide guidance and leadership around overall website structure, including information architecture and communication of key services.
  • Develop content strategy and editorial processes for publishing of help, tutorial, and guides (in conjunction with BU Libraries’ Research & Instruction Services).
  • Lead user experience activities and practices for projects in Library Technology & Discovery Services, translating patron input into website and service improvements.
  • Augment outreach efforts by working with the Library Communications Manager, program leads, and content creators to highlight and promote collections, people, and spaces to library user communities in online platforms.
  • Develop relationships and partnerships with university stakeholders, and among communities of practice across libraries and higher education.
