Metadata Intern (Fall 2023), NASA, (Greenbelt, MD)

Description

The NASA Goddard Library, which supports the information and research needs of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, is seeking a Metadata Intern. The intern will join the Digital Projects Team to assist with metadata projects involving a wide range of collections and resources.

Potential projects include metadata creation, updating and linking existing digital collections, laying the groundwork for a new digital collection, assisting with catalog projects, preparing for the upcoming NASA library collection consolidation, and/or data analytics/visualization.

Depending upon library priorities and intern interest, there may also be opportunities to work on web development and/or outreach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate level program related to Information and/or Library Science
  • Specialization and/or focus in data/metadata, info/library systems, or digital collections/curation
  • Experience with Excel, regex, databases, and/or MARC (programming experience is a plus, but not required)
  • Enthusiasm for library and digital repository metadata – Interest in NASA and STEM fields

Logistics

Interns can be either full time or part time. Remote internships should not be an issue for most projects, but the intern will likely have to go in person for badging at a NASA Center either way.
