Description:

The Brown University Library seeks an entrepreneurial and innovative Health Sciences Librarian for Public Health. Reporting to the Director of Health & Biomedical Library Services (HBLS), the Librarian will serve as primary point of contact for Library support of the Brown University School of Public Health (SPH). The School of Public Health is in a period of dynamic growth and innovation, advancing public health research and scholarship, growing the next generation of diverse public health leaders, and forging strong community partnerships. Diversity, equity, inclusion, and a dedication to anti-racism are critically important to the Library, the SPH, and the University; the successful candidate will be committed to incorporating these values in their instruction, engagement, and professional practice. Experience and/or familiarity with research and/or concepts related to antiracism, anti-Black racism, intersectionality, health disparities, transgender health, LGBTQIA+ health, critical race theory (and other overlapping themes) is especially favored.

The Health Sciences Librarian for Public Health will work with SPH leaders to develop and deliver curricular-aligned instructional content to support the educational programs of the SPH, and will build engagement with faculty and students by providing research consultations and partnerships, developing synchronous and asynchronous education/instruction, and creating other relevant programming for the SPH community. As part of Health and Biomedical Library Services (HBLS), the librarian will contribute to the Library’s Evidence Synthesis service, partnering with faculty on systematic reviews and other high-level review publications, and will partner with HBLS colleagues to strategically develop research lifecycle services and education and curricular support for Brown’s health and biomedical sciences community.

As a member of HBLS, the Librarian collaborates with colleagues across the Library to develop programs and services; contributes to strategy for developing relevant collections targeted to support disciplinary and interdisciplinary research across the health sciences; and maintains a high level of professional engagement both with colleagues in other institutions and with the professional literature. This is a highly collaborative position, representing the interdisciplinary nature of public health and of the University; partnerships with librarians in the Center for Library Exploration and Research, Academic Engagement, and the Center for Digital Scholarship are common.

The Brown University Library is a dynamic center of scholarship and community at the heart of a world-class research university. Supporting and collaborating with a broad and diverse academic constituency, the Library is essential for Brown’s mission “to serve the community, the nation, and the world by discovering, communicating, and preserving knowledge and understanding in a spirit of free inquiry.” Integrating with Brown’s ambitious strategic plans, the Library is a site of innovation that fuels intellectual creativity. Signature Library initiatives include the establishment of the Center for Library Exploration and Research to increase campus and community impact, and the Racial Justice Project to assess and counteract the legacies of historical racism in library practice. We are seeking outstanding library professionals at all levels of the organization who are excited about advancing academic excellence at the highest level, and who will bring a wide array of backgrounds, experiences, and abilities to a scholarly community that is actively committed to being more diverse and inclusive.
