This full-time (37.5 hours/week) job is based at the Central Library, located near Downtown Springfield and adjacent to the Springfield Museums in a city that that combines a diverse housing stock, a thriving dining district, many parks and schools, and easy access to health care and interstate highways alike. The Reference Librarian is part of a nine person Adult & Information Services team and has shared responsibility for reference services, reader’s advisory, tech assistance, collection development of print and non-print materials, programming, outreach, community engagement, programming, and similar duties pertaining to adult services. Work is performed under the direction of the Department Supervisor and Manager.

Qualifications:

We’re looking for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and the completion of an American Library Association-accredited Masters of Library Science. Candidates currently enrolled in an MLS program may also be considered. You’ll need an excellent customer service orientation, and a “turned outward” approach to community engagement is ideal. Bilingual abilities desirable (English and Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Arabic, Somali, Dari, or other community language). The City of Springfield has a residency requirement and allows new hires up to a year from the date of hire to establish residency.
