Director, D’Amour Library, Western New England University, Springfield, MA

Job Description

Western New England University is seeking a visionary leader who will serve as the next Director of D’Amour Library. This is an exciting opportunity to articulate a strategic, innovative, and contemporary vision and mission statement for the library, provide leadership on outreach, communication, and engagement to have direct impact on student retention and academic success.  D’Amour’s resources and assets shall support community engagement, teaching and learning, and scholarly activities ensuring that the activities and vision of D’Amour Library align with and are integrated into institutional priorities and mission. The Director shall also work with partners across the Division of Academic Affairs to reimagine and restructure flexible use of space and services to support learning, student retention and progression, and inclusion and equity.

Operationally, the Director of the D’Amour Library manages a team of librarians and library staff. The Director provides leadership in operational areas including library staffing, budget administration, digital initiatives and library technologies, collection development and maintenance (acquisitions, periodicals, cataloging, webpage, databases, archives, operating systems, reference) and instruction and outreach.

Qualifications

Required

  • MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Significant administrative experience at the university level including strategic planning, fiscal management, personnel management, and experience with relevant technologies
  • Knowledge of current issues, developments, innovations, and challenges in academic libraries and archives, information technology, scholarly communications, and higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal and external constituencies, including donors and potential donors
  • Record of creative leadership and strong interpersonal, communication, supervisory, and budget management skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing a diverse and equitable library culture and evidence of work with a diverse community
  • Successful experience cultivating relationships and partnerships within and outside of the library and university
  • Experience in and knowledge of several areas of academic librarianship
  • Understanding of and comfort with library technologies and the ability to implement and assess those technologies

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with grant writing, development, and fundraising activities
  • Expertise in creating, teaching, and evaluating library instruction classes
  • Ability in providing reference and research services
  • A doctoral, professional, or second master’s degree
  • Experience with space planning
  • Experience with consortia and resource-sharing groups
