Description
The New England Air Museum (NEAM) is seeking an energetic graduate student with experience in library/archives management for a paid, 10-week summer internship. This intern will assist the all- volunteer staff of the Museum’s John W. Ramsay Research Library with several ongoing archival processing and rehousing projects.
Responsibilities
- Conduct an initial inventory of the Edson Fessenden Gallaudet Collection and select an appropriate method of arrangement based on its findings; organize the contents of the collection using the method of arrangement; rehouse materials in new folders/boxes/containers as needed; and write a finding aid for the newly organized collection to facilitate its use by researchers (template will be provided).
- Assist Library staff in rehousing our Subject File Collection into standardized storage boxes and placing those boxes onto new shelving.
- The intern will report to the Library Director, with staff supervision from the Museum Curator.
Duration: This internship will begin the week of 12 June and run for 10 weeks. Internship not to exceed 180 total hours.
Schedule: Tues-Thurs, 10am-4pm with a half hour paid lunch. There is some flexibility in the schedule (ex. different weekdays can be worked), but Tuesday is a required day each week.
Compensation: Interns will be paid an hourly rate of $16.50.
Academic Credit: If a student would like to request academic credit, they are responsible for requesting and coordinating credit requirements with their college or university, their museum mentor, and Museum staff.
Founded in 1960 and located in Windsor Locks, CT, the New England Air Museum boasts a diverse and nationally recognized collection of aircraft, engines, and other aviation artifacts—the largest of its kind in the region. With more than 86,000 square feet of exhibit space and six large hangars on 56 acres leased by the Connecticut Airport Authority, the Museum is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and run by 10 full-time employees and more than 150 volunteers and part-time employees. The collection includes more than 100 historic aircraft, an extensive array of engines, propellers, vehicles, and other aviation artifacts, and a comprehensive research library and archives.
