Busy, fun, well-regarded library seeks an enthusiastic and experienced librarian to be our next full-time Assistant Director of Outreach Services. We are seeking a professional who tackles challenges with ingenuity, skill and practical sense. Our ideal candidate will have successful experience working with marginalized communities of all types, partnering with a wide variety of community organizations, and managing an active volunteer force.

We’re a hands-on library; are you ready to cover a service desk, handle that leaky roof, or take a trip with the Pop-Up Library? We’re also a strategic and big picture library; Can you work with the DEIC to advance social justice work? Have you implemented far-reaching community projects or grants? Tell us about your next-level ideas for the library’s strategic goals and for helping to lead a team to bigger and better things.

The person we’re looking for will thrive on new challenges, be a great problem-solver, and embrace librarianship as a calling and not just a job. You’ll need to enjoy coaching and mentoring other librarians as well as be experienced in positive personnel management. As Assistant Director of Outreach Services you should eagerly approach working with community partners, Friends of the Library, and volunteers. You’ll have the opportunity to expand and create connections in the neighborhoods around our MacKay branch too.

We’re looking for a well-read candidate who enjoys collection development and helping readers find
their next favorite book. Able to recommend movies, music, and podcasts too? Even better! You must be a customer service hero and ready to lead others by example; not to mention someone who is organized, curious, and up to speed on current library trends, and with a great track record promoting and building support for the library. We have high expectations but know the right person is out there to make it happen!

Qualifications: MLS (Master of Library Science) or MLIS (Master of Library Information Science) from an American Library Association accredited library school. Three to five years of library and personnel management experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills; listening and interpersonal skills; organizational skills; public speaking skills. Sense of humor is a must. Experience with strategic planning and collection development. Knowledge of web design and content management is a plus.

Salary
This is a full-time benefitted position with dental, health, Paid Time Off and Middlesex Retirement. $88,032 to $109,939 in ten steps.
