Assistant Digitization Librarian, Phillips Library, Rowley, MA

The Phillips Library seeks a full-time, collaborative Assistant Digitization Librarian who will be responsible for digitizing and making accessible a variety of materials in the Phillips Library collection. They will handle rare, valuable, and often fragile research materials with care while producing high-quality digital images using the library’s equipment. The ADL will then manage the processes of making the images and associated metadata accessible to the public and providing for the long-term storage of the master files. This position will create and maintain documentation for equipment, workflows, and software, as well as coordinate digitization projects with external vendors and partners. They will train library and museum staff, interns, fellows, and volunteers to use relevant equipment and software, monitoring the quality of the resulting product. They will fulfill reproduction orders from museum staff and visiting researchers, and assist in the promotion of digitized items via social media and other channels. Thorough, effective and clear communication with colleagues and partners is essential.

The Assistant Digitization Librarian works closely with the Library Director and the Reference and Access Services Librarian to determine the overall direction of the digitization initiative and its priorities. They will be skilled in project management, flexible, creative, curious, critical thinking, interested in equity and increasing the diversity of our collections and support of eradicating harmful language from our records. Their work will take place primarily at PEM’s James B. and Mary Lou Hawkes Collection Center in Rowley, Massachusetts.
