Salary: $70,000-$90,000 (max). Plus full NYU Comprehensive Benefit Plan.
Hours/week: 35-40 for two years with possibility of renewal
Location: Remote, with supervision in Boston and New York
Library Futures, a project of the Engelberg Center on Innovation Law & Policy dedicated to tackling cutting edge legal, policy, and advocacy issues around libraries and access to knowledge seeks to hire a Research Manager to help us build a responsive, research-driven, and thoughtful library organization to tackle cutting-edge issues in libraries and access to information. Together with our small team and broad community you will be responsible for producing meaningful research on the future of libraries in the digital space.
Do you love research, project management, and writing? Are you a data and policy wonk with a passion for libraries? Reporting to the Director, this position will imagine, scope, provide input on, and manage our research and data outputs. This role will also be responsible for directly managing our part-time clinical students at the NYU Engelberg Center.

Your relevant skills and experience
- Background in librarianship and/or qualitative and quantitative research methods. MLS, JD, or MPP preferred but not required
- Strong foundation in qualitative and quantitative research
- 2-6 years of experience preferred
- Knowledge of or interest in the digital lending environment, publishing, copyright, vendor negotiations, and other digital library issues as reflected in the Library Futures principles.
- Experience with stakeholder management, community engagement, project management, and group facilitation.
- Good communicator internally and externally – can share results in an actionable way
- Empathetic listener, thoughtful collaborator, curious, with a commitment to creative problem solving
- Experience in leading successful work projects to completion and presenting them to a broad audience
Nice to have
- Experience with data sets, SQL, or data cleaning
- Background in cultural economics
- Strong background and training in library policy, advocacy, and copyright
- Experience in data modeling and visualization
- Quantitative research experience including surveys, sampling, and data presentation
- Experience conducting and directing qualitative research projects including focus groups and interviews
- Management experience
In this job, you will
- Identify and research emerging trends in library technology through qualitative and quantitative methods
- Collaborate with the Library Futures Director and Fellows, Engelberg Staff, and community partners to draft and edit whitepapers, briefs, policy statements, journal articles, and other research outputs
- Conduct new research in emerging technologies and synthesize existing research for a broad audience
- Identify and utilize relevant datasets and other existing research for visualization and incorporation into Library Futures research outputs
- Manage 3-4 student research fellows every semester
