The Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum seeks a Digital Project Manager to oversee the digitization of the Museum’s Archives Collection for a period of 2 years with the possibility of extension based on available grant funds. The successful candidate will have experience in digital collection processing/imaging, demonstrated understanding of archival description and materials, and experience with digital project management and online publication. Responsibilities include writing descriptions for materials, scanning materials, transcribing correspondence, and recording appropriate metadata.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage a digitization project of museum archives containing documents, drawings, photographs, and visual media for long term preservation and internal and external access.
  • Prepare project proposals and the formulation of project budgets and workplans including recommendations for workflows and prioritization of materials to be digitized.
  • Work with museum director to identify and apply for grant funding related to this Archives Collection project.
  • Ensure that the digital project proceeds according to any and all grant requirements as well as the Museum’s respective schedule, budget, and workplan.
  • Prepare and maintain necessary project documentation including descriptive and preservation metadata creation.
  • Develop recommendations for appropriate preservation and access of digital assets including cataloging in Collections Management System (CMS) and any additional systems including but not limited to networked and external hard drives, cloud storage, Digital Asset Management System (DAMS), publicly searchable websites, online engagement platforms, and others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Museum Studies and/or Library Science or equivalent advanced degree, preferably with an archives or special collections concentration; or equivalent education and work experience required.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience, with at least two years working specifically on digital projects and at least two years managing projects.
  • Experience with handling of museum and archival collections in accordance with professional standards and best practices.
  • Experience working with a range of digital technologies, including Collections Management Systems, preferably PastPerfect but other CMS and DAMS a plus including but not limited to ContentDM, Omeka, TMS, Collective Access, and CatalogIt.
  • Familiarity with metadata schema and library encoding and content standards (Dublin Core, EAD, MARC, RDA, DACS).
  • Strong knowledge of digital imaging and metadata standards for museums.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and a demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines at once.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to climb ladders, bend, and lift boxes weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Valid driver’s license to occasionally drive between contractors and museum.
  • Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional knowledge of collection management theory and practice and working knowledge of issues related to cataloging and reformatting library, archives, and/or museum collections including copyright and online access.

Stated interest and experience in art, history, and DEAI advancement.
