Harvard Library seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to advance equitable, high impact models of scholarly communication across the University. The incumbent provides appreciative leadership for the newly formed department, Open Scholarship and Research Data Services. This new department merges two high-performing units, the Office for Scholarly Communication and the Research Data Management Program, to support Harvard Library’s aspirations, on behalf of researchers, to be global leaders in expanding world knowledge and intellectual exploration through the creation, promotion, and support of new and existing models of sharing research outputs.

Reporting to the Assistant University Librarian for Content Strategies and Associate Librarian for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the University Scholarly Communication Officer and Director of Open Scholarship and Research Data Services leads Harvard Library’s efforts to shift the information landscape towards a more equitable, diverse ecosystem of trustworthy resources where the best and most innovative research is freely available to all who need it. Guided by Harvard Library’s strategic directions described in Advancing Open Knowledge, the incumbent leads and collaborates throughout Harvard Library, Harvard University, and in external groups on issues related to the outputs of research, scholarly communication, open access, research data management, and preservation of research data.

The incumbent will work in close collaboration with the University Research Data Officer and the University Research Computing Officer to coordinate strategic initiatives that span Harvard researchers, Information Technology and Harvard Library throughout the research lifecycle, bringing library expertise in access and discovery, scholarly communication, research data management, curation, and preservation to the scope of the work.
