Librarian II, Adult Services – New Haven Free Public Library, (New Haven, CT)

After an internal promotion, we now have a vacancy in our Reference/Adult Services department. The ideal candidate will have programming and collection management experience, creativity, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, maintain a professional commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and value teamwork.
TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Formulates and executes on-line database searches
  • Assists in the training of entry level librarians and support staff;
  • Has responsibility of operation of a special collection and/or service such as Job Information, Health, or Audio-Visual;
  • Selects materials, develops procedures, plans informational materials, works with community groups,
    and participates in related statewide activities;
  • Performs research for and instructs patrons in the use of reference tools and databases, prepares bibliographies;
  • Instructs patrons in the use of the library and its facilities; assists patrons in the use of computers and their applications, including the Internet;
  • Conducts library tours for civic groups;
  • Conducts programs such as book talks, story hours, and specialized information presentations;
  • Develops and maintains relationships with community organizations to promote library services;
  • Supervises the work of support personnel;
  • May supervise branch or department in absence of regular supervisor;
  • Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited library school;
  • Ability to organize and maintain a specialized library collection or service within a department;
  • Experience with a variety of online databases and the ability to apply this knowledge in planning and implementation of research;
  • Ability to evaluate and advise on the disposition of reference questions;
  • Ability to instruct and train support staff.
  • This position serves a diverse population, including a substantial Spanish-speaking community. Spanish language skills are helpful.


    SALARY: Within Local 3144 Range 7: $51,648 annualized
