The Brockton Public Library is accepting applications for an Assistant Library Director beginning January, 2023.

This Assistant Director Assists the Director in Managing the Senior Staff to evaluate and improve efficiency and effectiveness of the Library. It involves exercising a high degree of judgment, initiative and leadership as well as the ability to anticipate and implement effective responses to library and administrative circumstances. The Assistant Director shall be directly responsible to the Library Director. The Assistant Director plans, manages, and executes special projects such as grant funded projects, organizational improvement projects, construction projects and contributes to planning and community collaborations.

About the City and the Library System

The City of Brockton is a Gateway City with a population of approximately 106,000. More than twenty-eight percent (28%) of Brockton residents are foreign born, with the largest immigrant populations being of Cape Verdean, Haitian and Hispanic cultures. As there are many residents whose first language is not English, there is a growing need for the provision of English language learning services in the City. The Brockton Public Library not only remains an established and invaluable public resource for English language learning services, but also serves the community as a facilitator of cultural awareness and understanding, education and civic engagement.

The Brockton Public Library’s three buildings total 62,400 square feet across the city: the downtown Main Branch is the largest facility with 47,000 sq. ft., East and West Branch libraries are 7,700 sq. ft. respectively.
