Cataloging Assistant, NEH Digitization Project at 92Y, New York, NY (Remote)

Description:

The 92nd Street Y has an immediate opening for two temporary part-time Project Catalogers to catalog digital audio assets as part of an NEH grant-funded digitization project. Archival recordings to be cataloged include lectures, conversations, debates, and panel discussions held at the 92NY from 1950-2008 and digitized from legacy formats. The Project Cataloger will report to the Director of the Unterberg Poetry Center and work closely with a team of consulting archivists. This remote and part-time contract position will begin as soon as possible and conclude on July 31, 2023. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Create catalog records and populate an Excel spreadsheet with brief descriptions of audio recordings and their content
  • Application of descriptive metadata based on the PBCore Metadata Standard
  • Identify and flag inaccuracies in existing metadata
  • Track and record progress independently to meet grant reporting benchmarks
  • Communicate and provide updates to project team
  • Conducting regular reviews to ensure accuracy of cataloging work

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Attention to detail and ability to work efficiently
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with team members
  • Ability to apply knowledge of cataloging rules, procedures and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and efficiency

Preferred

  • Enrollment in or recent graduation from an MLS/MLIS or other graduate degree with archival experience
  • Familiarity working with audiovisual collections
  • Experience applying PBCore or similar archival metadata standards and authorities such as LCSH

Compensation

$22 per hour
