Digital Asset Management Assistant (part-time), Harvard Law School (Cambridge, MA)

The Office of Communications at Harvard Law School performs a wide range of communications functions in support of HLS and its mission. This includes producing and sharing informative, engaging content and communications across multiple channels and with audiences on campus and around the globe; providing guidance to members of the HLS community; and collaborating with partners throughout the school, across the university, and beyond to share information, help foster community, and deepen the understanding of and appreciation for the work being done across HLS.

As part-time member of the HLS Communications team, the digital asset management (DAM) assistant is responsible for acquiring, cataloging, curating, and distributing the law school’s digital photo assets using Extensis Portfolio, the school’s DAM system. Reporting to the Associate Director and Managing Editor for Print/Digital Publications, and working with the Multimedia Producer and other members of the Communications team, the DAM assistant supports the digital asset needs of the Office of Communications and the Harvard Law School community. The DAM system, known as HLDA (Harvard Law Digital Assets) currently holds nearly 250K photo assets.

Position Description

  • As a digital asset management assistant you will,
  • Help manage and implement efficient and effective workflow processes for the acquisition, ingest, and cataloging of photo assets into the DAM system.
  • Provide photo assets with relevant metadata, including filename, keywords, description, subject IDs, and copyright information, in order to optimize findability and use.
  • Ensure metadata is accurate and work to record and address errors and inconsistencies throughout the collection.
  • Respond to requests for images from the Harvard Law School community and beyond.
  • Assist on larger-scale photo-related requests and projects .
  • Help create a series of digital finding aids for our growing collection of video assets.
  • Update the HLDA manual as needed (approx. every six months).
  • Train new HLDA users as needed.
  • Help with the development of digital asset management strategy and vision


Basic qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Proficiency with digital asset management (DAM) tools such as Extensis Portfolio and understanding of best practices related to taxonomy, and metadata, digital rights.

Schedule

10-14 hours per week. Flexible. Work hours are scheduled Monday-Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. A portion of the work can be done remotely. Position is open immediately.


Salary: $22-$25/hour
