Circulation Librarian, Georgetown Peabody Library, MA

The Georgetown Peabody Library seeks an energetic, enthusiastic, outgoing librarian to serve as Circulation Librarian. This is a professional position reporting to the Library Director. This position averages 31 hours per week including evenings, a rotation of Saturdays, or as designated by the Library Director. Mondays 12pm-8pm, Tuesdays 9am-5pm, Wednesdays 10am-5pm, Fridays 9am-5pm, and one to two Saturdays a month 9am-1pm (September to June). Potential for Thursday hours (10am-5pm) in FY24.

This position is responsible for providing daily Circulation services, including checking materials in and out; emptying book drop and delivery bins; registering new library patrons; and assisting patrons with accounts. This includes providing technical and support desk services by welcoming patrons, responding to phone and emails, answering general reference questions, and reserving meeting spaces and museum passes. Informs patrons of new services; advises, assists, and instructs patrons on technical services and use of office equipment and e-readers software. The Circulation Librarian oversees billing for lost/damaged items and oversees the adult fiction collection, including selection, cataloging, processing, and weeding. Supervises part-time Library Technicians, Library Pages, and Volunteers.

Provides readers with audiovisual/technical advisory services and personalized reading lists. Performs Inter-Library loan duties of searching, requesting, loaning and processing material through the Commonwealth Catalog. Participates in professional development, system meetings, workshops and continuing education. Updates staff on circulation policy and procedural changes. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree in Library Science preferred, with a minimum of two years’ experience working in a library setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills: Proven ability and desire to work effectively with the public. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Experience with the use of the Internet, social media, databases and library systems (SirsiDynix Symphony preferred). Ability to work independently and as a team member. Detailed oriented and exhibits considerable judgment skills.

Physical Requirements: Able to lift a minimum of ten pounds, to reach all library shelving with aid of step ladder and to stand for a minimum of four hours.

Salary: $22.28/hour. Position includes town benefits, vacation, holiday, and sick pay. Pay to increase to $25.97/hour as of January 1, 2023.
