The Town of Dedham is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Part Time Archivist to oversee the Dedham Collection. This position is responsible for caring for and providing access to documents and other research materials relating to the history of the Town of Dedham. They will develop community programming to engage the Dedham community by bringing the Archives to the community.  This position is a 10 hour per week non-benefited, non-union position. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Is responsible for the maintenance of the Dedham Collection. This includes cataloging, appraising and accessioning records, photographs and artifacts.
  • Conduct basic preservation, digitization, and reformatting activities for paper and photographic materials, other media types, and acquisitions.
  • Advise patrons on the history collection and resources.
  • Create archival exhibits and materials to be experienced both virtually and in person.
  • Develop programs to increase public awareness and knowledge of Dedham’s rich history.
  • Provide training for staff and patrons on how to handle the collection.
  • Prepare statistical reports.
  • Prepare grant proposals for archival projects.
  • Collaborate with other Town departments and organizations.
  • Make recommendations on the housing and storage of the Dedham Collection
  • Assist other staff members in their duties as required.
  • Staff public service desks as needed.

Education and Experience

  • MLS or MLIS with a specialization in archival studies or equivalent
  • 2-3 years experience working in a library archive
  • Must receive an acceptable CORI report

Knowledge, Ability, and Skill

  • Knowledge of current issues and trends in collection and exhibition management is desirable.
  • Able to recognize and set priorities, and to use initiative and independent judgment in a variety of situations.
  • Experience working with a diverse user community inclusive of all ages, ability and background.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
