Technology Services Librarian, Westfield Athenaeum, Westfield, MA

Reporting to the Head of Adult Services, the Technology Services Librarian is responsible for library-wide technology support and services to ensure current, secure, and reliable technology that sustains and enhances the services of the Athenaeum. This person also provides customer service and answers reference questions at public service desks, as well as developing and offering technology education for staff and the public. 

7.5 hours/week, Monday-Friday, with one evening per week and a Saturday rotation This is a Grade 5 union position with a starting rate of $21.00/hour

Essential Duties:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot public and staff PCs, laptops, tablets, printers, hotspots, and related equipment 
  • Perform all PC configuration and maintenance activities, including one-off and library-wide software updates
  • Recommend and implement hardware and software upgrades, including network and desktop PC security software, in order to maintain safe, reliable, and secure technology and internet access for staff and the public
  • Coordinate the use and time management of public PCs, faxing, and printers 
  • Administer the Athenaeum’s Google Workspace, WordPress website, and Omeka digital archives 
  • Oversee the functionality of security cameras and review/capture footage when requested
  • Provide instruction and assistance to staff and patrons in using computer equipment, software, and emerging technologies 
  • Develop and implement educational programming in technology use for the public 
  • Provide reference and information services as a member of the Reference Desk team
  • Attend meetings, workshops, or webinars for training purposes 
  • Act as the Manager on Call as needed

Potential Duties:

  • Maintain, develop, and create text, graphic, and video content for website, digital bulletin boards, and social media 
  • Manage a section of the circulating collection, including selection and weeding
  • Provide coverage in other areas of the library as needed
  • Other duties as assigned 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Thorough knowledge of current and emerging information technologies related to public libraries
  • Expertise in Windows OS, web-based applications, back-up strategies and solutions, and open source software
  • Familiarity with cloud-based security programs and firewalls, including DeepFreeze
  • Knowledge of routers, switches, networking equipment and wireless networking
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Strong time management and organizational skills  
  • Ability to use a computer workstation for an extended length of time
  • Familiarity with public library services and programs 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in library and information science or a related field 
  • Experience with Evergreen ILS and the CWMARS consortium
