Supervisor of Circulation & Technical Services, Wiggins Memorial Library, Stratham(NH)

The Wiggin Memorial Library is seeking an energetic, talented leader to join our team in a brand new position! The ideal candidate has knowledge of both circulation and technical services, familiarity with Koha, and supervisory experience.

Essential Functions

  • Plans and supervises the operation of the Circulation and Technical Services team including establishing priorities and work flows, training staff, and preparing daily work schedules for the circulation desk
  • Responsible for the efficient circulation of library materials, collection and interpretation of circulation statistics, and maintenance of borrower records, including protecting confidentiality of patron information
  • Oversees the ordering, receiving, processing and cataloging of all library materials
  • Manages KOHA modules relevant to circulation and technical services processes 
  • Prepares and updates procedural manuals for circulation and technical services team procedures and prepares other guides as needed
  • Prepares regular reports on circulation activities and collection management
  • Makes recommendations on circulation and technical services policies and procedures 
  • Assists library visitors with personal technology devices
  • Assists with troubleshooting and maintaining in house technology, and refers problems to Assistant Director and Library Director as needed
  • Resolves patron concerns and questions; maintains positive public relations
  • Assists with library events and programs, including outreach activities
  • Attends workshops, conferences and local, regional and state meetings
  • Works under the supervision of the Library Director or their designee; cooperates as a team member with other library staff; occasionally provides support staffing for the youth services area of library

Education and Experience

  • MLS / MLIS from an accredited college or university preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience as a librarian, with at least 1 year in a leadership role, preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • KNOWLEDGE – Knowledge of principles and practices of professional library work, including automated library systems (Koha preferred) and staff management; knowledge of current trends affecting circulation services, technical services and information technology services in libraries.
  • ABILITIES – Ability to relate well to people; flexibility, initiative, judgment, creativity and tact; ability to express oneself orally and in writing effectively; ability to organize, train, and supervise circulation and technical services staff and to develop and maintain effective library relationships with fellow employees, town staff, volunteers and the public.
  • SKILLS – Interpersonal and problem solving skills; excellent customer service skills; strong information technology skills and technical services skills.

Position Type / Expected Hours

  • This is an exempt, 40 hour per week position. The work hours are distributed over the library’s open hours, including evenings and weekends.  Occasional work will be scheduled outside of the library’s open hours to accommodate programming, community outreach and Board of Trustee meetings. The schedule will be determined by the Library Director and the Board of Trustees.

40 hours per week, includes some evening hours and Saturdays (by rotation)

Starting Salary: $52,894
