Research Services Coordinator, Bowdoin College, Brunswick, ME

Bowdoin College Library seeks a Research Services Coordinator to oversee the research, reference, and reproduction services for Special Collections & Archives (SC&A). SC&A is an active special collections library with robust collections of rare books, manuscript collections, and the College archives that are consulted frequently by Bowdoin students, faculty, and staff, as well as researchers from around the world. The Coordinator is the department’s primary point person for on- and off-site researchers. The position oversees the department’s secure Reading Room, staffs the reference desk and coordinates the reference shifts of others, researches and responds to reference questions, and as appropriate, refers questions to subject experts. The position is the department’s expert on Aeon, an online patron registration and requesting system, and is responsible for ensuring the safe, timely, and orderly circulation of materials to patrons. The Coordinator also manages appointment, permission to publish, and scanning requests. 

This is a part-time (20 hours/week) appointment with anticipated schedule of 1-5pm, Monday-Friday.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Arts or Science degree is required. Applicants must be customer-service oriented with excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; must be able to attend to work with accuracy, attention to detail and discretion, including the need for confidentiality; and must be comfortable working with a wide range of software, including web-based programs. Knowledge of or experience with library systems, particularly integrated library systems catalogs, and archival collections management software strongly preferred.

One year of experience in a library, archives, cultural heritage, or office environment is required. Must have direct experience doing library and/or archival research and be familiar with fundamental principles of research. Experience working in a library and/or archives is strongly preferred.

The successful candidate will be subject to a criminal history background check.
