Research Instruction Librarian, SUNY Geneseo, Geneseo, NY

Description:

We are seeking a Research Instruction librarian who is dedicated to student success and teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment. This librarian will serve as liaison to the social sciences, which entails providing reference support and collaborating with faculty to deliver information literacy instruction in these programs. This librarian will use their strong outreach skills to build connections between the library and student support service departments across campus. As part of their work on building the library’s connection to students, they will manage the undergraduate journal, Proceedings of GREAT Day, a library intern-driven publication that makes student research searchable on Google and provides a lasting record of achievement. They will also participate as a member of the KnightScholar Services Team, which manages the scholarly communications, digital preservation, and digital publishing of the library.

The successful applicant will enter a full-time tenure-track position at the Senior Assistant Librarian rank. Salary: $52,842

Responsibilities

  • Develop and provide specialized information literacy instruction for the Departments of Communication, Mathematics, Political Science & International Relations, Psychology, and Sociology.
  • Participate in the Library’s general instruction program for programs such as Access Opportunities Program, McNair Scholars, and academic workshops.
  • Provide outreach and research support to students, faculty, and staff in the social sciences and other academic disciplines
  • Participate in the library’s reference services by covering drop-in hours and offering students time to meet for research consultations.
  • Create and maintain subject- and course-related online research guides, instructional tools, and assessments.
  • Coordinate outreach to student support services in order to expand the library’s connections on campus.
  • Manage the operations and interns of the undergraduate research journal, The Proceedings of GREAT Day.
  • Participate on library teams or committees in support of the Library’s mission.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master’s degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited school or an ALA-approved foreign equivalent
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working and teaching environment
  • Expressed interest in developing college students’ information literacy skills to support their academic success

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or delivering presentations or workshops
  • Demonstrated ability to identify connections and opportunities related to one’s role in the library
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently without day-to-day supervision and function effectively within a team setting
