The Loyola Notre Dame Library (LNDL) is offering a remote, two-year graduate assistant position for current library science graduate students interested in learning more about collection development and management. Working in the Collections and Access Services, the Graduate Assistant will participate in collection unit operations related to acquisitions, collection development, copy cataloging, and electronic resources. The Graduate Assistant will collaborate to conduct collection-wide maintenance and analysis projects, develop or revise unit procedures, and support as assigned the migration to the consortium’s new library management system.

The Graduate Collections Assistant will be collaborative, service-oriented, and adaptable to the varied needs of diverse faculty, students, and campus communities

Position Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoots and resolves electronic resources access issues;
  • Manages the life cycle of electronic resources;
  • Assists in maintaining subscription information and coordinating payment of invoices;
  • Conducts data analysis in support of department level report preparation as needed;
  • Evaluates, purchases, and receives new materials requested by faculty and liaisons;
  • Contributes to monthly budget reporting and management;
  • Copy cataloging as assigned;
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled MLIS graduate student at Simmons University;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately with attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve objectives;
  • Commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through library collection stewardship.

Schedule and Compensation:
This position requires 20 hours per week of in-person and remote work. Candidates may work up to two years and will be provided with funding to attend one library conference per year. Compensation is $20/hour. Experience may be applied towards a field study or practicum, subject to faculty approval.
