Title: Science & Engineering Librarian

Location: University of Wisconsin – Madison

Work Type: Full Time, Partial Remote; Expected onsite 60%, with onsite public services responsibilities a priority

Description:   The Science & Engineering Librarian joins a collegial team of librarians that engages with the research, teaching, and learning of UW-Madison’s science and engineering community. As a member of the Physical Science & Engineering Team, the Science & Engineering Librarian will take a collaborative approach to building relationships with faculty, staff, and students to develop and provide reference, research, and instruction services. They will specialize in scholarly communication and research impact, contributing to related initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Science & Engineering Library Services, this librarian will have opportunities to participate in UW-Madison Libraries-wide committees to help shape future research services.

Qualifications:

Required:

– An interest in supporting the research needs of the science and/or engineering academic community.

– Commitment to incorporating diversity, inclusion, and equity principles into all aspects of professional work.

– Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.

– Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills, including comfort with public speaking.

– ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science (MLS) OR relevant education and experience (subject expertise combined with experience)

      – Applicants without an MLS are encouraged to share how their specific skills and experiences speak to  the job qualifications and needs.

Preferred:

– Interest in or experience with aspects of scholarly communication such as open access publishing, research impact, scholarly profiles (ORCID), or related topics.

– Experience developing and delivering instruction, in both in-person and virtual environments.

– Experience working in an academic/special library or a higher education setting.

– Experience developing working partnerships with clientele and communities.

– A demonstrated commitment to public service.

– Ability to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities.

– Undergraduate degree or relevant experience in the sciences, mathematics, or engineering.

Minimum Salary: $53,000
