The Newburyport Public Library is currently accepting applications for a benefitted, full-time (35 hours/week) professional Staff Librarian position, with an emphasis on adult services and programming.


The Newburyport Public Library offers a collaborative workplace focused on welcoming patron service. All staff are involved in collection management and public service at various service desks. Ongoing professional development is encouraged and supported.

The NPL Information Services department is a thriving environment, offering a variety of engaging programs, a welcoming space for visitors, and a strong collection. The Information Services Staff Librarian participates in creating and delivering programs; assists with reference and readers’ advisory; selects a variety of collection materials; assists with social media and marketing; provides technology assistance for patrons, and supports the Information Services Department Head with day-to-day operations. From book groups to gardening programs, movie matinees, local history, art, food, culture and more, this role offers an opportunity to explore new programming ideas for adults and patrons of all ages. Adult services events are well attended both virtually and in person at NPL, with strong support from the community.

Newburyport Public Library is a Merrimack Valley Library Consortium (MVLC) accredited member, located in a busy walkable downtown city serving 18,000 residents with a strong patron base. Required Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science required, but students actively enrolled in an MLS program will be considered.


Hours and Salary:
· 35 hours/week, fixed hours including 1 evening shift a week and a rotation of Saturdays
· AFSCME Grade 16
· $25.64 – $30.17/hour in 6 steps
