Resource Acquisitions Assistant (Full-Time), Boston College Libraries, MA

Description:

We are seeking an experienced paraprofessional to join the acquisitions team for Boston
College Libraries. The Resource Acquisitions Assistant will share responsibility for ordering and
invoicing of over $1.2 million of monographic collections budget annually. Commitment to
excellent customer service and superior attention to detail is necessary for a successful
performance of these duties:

  • Place orders with appropriate vendors for monographic acquisitions, according to established guidelines
  • Use an integrated library system (Alma) to maintain records relating to: orders, vendors, and inventory
  • Manage activation and troubleshoot access issues for electronic book orders.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving order and/or invoicing questions and problems.
  • Assist in the resolution of bibliographic, holdings, and receipt problems, working closely with catalogers and other library staff
  • Receive new material in Alma, routing it to appropriate departments for additional processing
  • Contribute to the unit’s goals by completing special projects as needed
  • Develop and foster good working relationships with vendors, sales representatives, Library selectors, and other University staff

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $39,900 to $49,850; salary commensurate with relevant
experience.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education preferred
  • Two to five years academic library experience in technical services areas, academic library preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service, including initiatives and follow-through
  • Experience with integrated library systems, Alma preferred
  • Knowledge of MS Excel and spreadsheet management.
  • Knowledge of OCLC, Library ILS and accounting systems, PeopleSoft preferred.
  • Experience searching monographic and serial vendor databases.
  • Ability to interpret MARC bibliographic and holdings records and cataloging data.
  • Experience communicating with vendors with appropriate follow-up.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy; comfort with rapidly changing technologies.
