Discovery and Systems Librarian/Senior Assistant Librarian, California State University San Bernardino, San Bernardino, CA

Description:

California State University, San Bernardino’s libraries invite applications from forward-thinking, usability-focused, collaborative, librarians to implement, maintain, and assess library systems which enhance discovery and access of library materials and services at our San Bernardino and Palm Desert campus libraries.

The Discovery and Systems Librarian is a full-time, tenure-track position with the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian that reports to the dean of the libraries.

You have primary responsibility for configuring, developing, and sustaining Primo VE, the platform behind the library’s OneSearch discovery system, and additional third-party library systems such as Springshare products.

You assist the University Archivist with development and administration of open-source platforms such as ArchivesSpace and Omeka and with keeping these systems updated and fully operational.

In collaboration with campus ITS and the University Archivist, you oversee the infrastructure required to support library-based digitization and digital collection-building activities.

A constant focus on user experience (UX) drives your regular assessments of our existing technology-based resources, services, and Web presence, and informs improvements and planning (both short-term and strategic).

You monitor current technology trends and products in academic libraries, keeping an eye out for things that would advance and enrich our libraries’ resources and services and promote student success.

You regularly share recommendations derived from the duties described above with the library team for consideration, discussion, and planning (both short-term and strategic).

As the libraries’ liaison to ITS departments on both campuses, you represent the libraries’ needs and advocate for resources.  You consult with them on library technology and supporting systems’ configurations, and maintenance as needed.

You recruit, train, schedule, and supervise student assistants for library IT support and also those staffing our Innovation Lab, a maker space offering 3D scanning, printing, and more.

You participate in reference service, collection development, and liaison duties.

The successful candidate will be expected to meet retention, promotion, and tenure standards for tenure-track library faculty in three areas: (1) professional assignment; (2) research, scholarly, or creative contributions; and (3) university and/or community service.  The library provides support for and fosters intellectual endeavors.  Librarians are valued as faculty with their own varied research interests which may not be limited to library science.

Applicants selected for in-person interviews will be reimbursed for any travel expenses they incur.  Should the successful candidate need to relocate, moving expenses may be reimbursed.
