Reference Librarian (Part-Time), Beverly Public Library, MA

The Part-Time Reference Librarian fills works 16 hours per week, plus 1 weekend per month. This position works under the general supervision of the Head of Reference Services.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following; other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for working at the Reference Desk to assist patrons in a friendly and professional manner with their information needs.  Responds to Reference and local history requests that come in via email, telephone, mail, fax, etc.
  • Participates in both selection and collection development for the adult collection to ensure that the Beverly Public Library’s collection remains up to date and well rounded
  • Assists the Head of Reference Services with preservation and archival projects, as well as managing the library’s digital display.
  • Instructs patrons in the use of the online catalog and other library resources. Provides one-on-one instruction and answers questions about electronic devices and digital resources
  • Processes ComCat and interlibrary loans. Acts as the Library’s representative to NOBLE for ComCat and interlibrary loans
  • Attends professional and community meetings
  • Troubleshoots various equipment, such as computers, printers, fax machines, microform machines, etc. as needed. Ensures that supplies are stocked in the reference department area.
  • Provides excellent customer service, as described in the Library’s Customer Service Guidelines
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other staff members.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from a graduate school program accredited by the American Library Association (Staff Librarian) OR currently enrolled in a Master’s Degree program in Library or Information Science from a graduate school program accredited by the American Library Association with half or more courses completed, including a course in Reference (Librarian I). Experience or interest in preservation and local history preferred. 

Salary: $19.38/hour (Librarian I); $25.70/hour (Staff Librarian)
