Library Services Coordinator (Full-Time), The Loomis Chaffee School, Windsor, CT

The Katharine Brush Library at The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut is
searching for a Library Services Coordinator. This is a full-time, 9-month position during
the academic year, starting September 2022. The qualified candidate will be a
collaborative, student-focused professional with strong organizational skills. The primary
responsibility of this position will be interacting and assisting the Loomis community at
the library circulation desk, including the supervision of the Library Student Assistants
and monitoring students. Secondary responsibility will be assisting the Library Director
in the financial and accounting functions of the library and performing office support
services. This position includes a minimum of one evening per week and occasional
weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary

  • Serve at the circulation desk, assist library patrons, and monitor students, including during evening student hall
  • Answer patron questions concerning library resources and services, including use of the library catalog
  • Supervise Library Student Assistants
    • Write schedule each term; set daily tasks
    • Train and mentor

Secondary

  • Order books, supplies, periodicals; maintain strong relationships with vendors
  • Account for items ordered and received; submit claims as necessary
  • Collaborate with business office on purchases and invoices; maintain budget 
  • Under the direction of the librarians, perform collection maintenance, including shelving library material, shelf-reading, shifting, and weeding
  • Special and other projects or tasks assigned as necessary as they pertain to the goals and objectives of the library, including set-up and coordinate the library’s fundraiser events, assist with the Summer Reading Program, and assist in closing down procedure at the end of the school year

Qualifications and Skills

  • A four-year bachelor’s degree or equivalent  
  • Previous experience in a public, academic, or independent school library 
  • Positive attitude, strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and an ability to work independently as well as in a team 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to work in a diverse, collaborative environment and interact effectively with faculty, staff, colleagues, and academically motivated high school students 
  • Experience using an integrated library system  
  • Proficiency in other types of library technology, especially library databases and discovery products 
  • Office management or other administrative experience, ideally in education or libraries 
  • Excellent organizational skills 
  • Budget or bookkeeping experience 
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office
