Library Media Specialist (Full-Time), Wellesley Public Schools, MA

Description:

The WHS Librarian works in partnership with library staff to deliver information literacy and research skills through co-teaching with subject area teachers. They help oversee the day-to-day management of the library including helping manage library aides’ time.  They help to create and maintain an innovative, exciting and welcoming community space for students and staff to actively use throughout the day.

Knowledge

  • The candidate should be energetic & tech-savvy with a drive to integrate educational technology and library programs; have interpersonal, collaborative, & leadership skills. Should have the ability to create information literacy & reading incentive programs, plus attend to library circulation and processing tasks. 
  • Experience and commitment to working in a racially and culturally diverse teaching and learning community. 

Skills

  • The ability to apply the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) standards to instruction, curriculum partnership, and educational technology.
  • Curriculum design & development experience, as well as a working knowledge of reading trends and literacy instruction.
  • The ability to facilitate and lead strong student-centered, student-led instruction.
  • Collaborative skills to partner with teachers and administration on curriculum and project development.
  • Initiative to promote and lead opportunities that encourage academic research and the development of multiple literacies for students and faculty.
  • Creativity to serve as a resource to organize, synthesize, and communicate resources that reflect our commitment to diversity, equity, and belonging. 
  • Management skills to continually evaluate, procure, and promote the library’s database and research resources.
  • Curiosity and commitment to pursue ongoing professional development of evolving trends in curriculum, library design, and 21st-century learning to facilitate the changing needs of learners and faculty.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science (or an equivalent combination of educational degrees and/or certifications)
  • Experience with high school-age students
