Archives Assistant, Harvard Law School Library Digital Lab, Cambridge, MA

The Harvard Law School Library has an opening for one 14-hour per week position beginning in August 2022. The person in this role will assist with the processing and digitization of modern manuscript
collections to help make these collections open for research using the library’s new minimal level
processing workflows. The Archives Assistant will report to the Archivist for Special Projects and work in
close collaboration with other Digital Lab staff.


Core duties include assisting with processing collections to the box and file level, including manuscript
rehousing and creating descriptive metadata; and entering data into spreadsheets and ArchivesSpace.
Additional duties may include assisting with accessioning and appraisal of manuscript collections;
preparing collections for digital imaging, including removing staples, unfolding documents, and flagging
specific materials; inventory tracking; quality control of scanned images; and deposit of digital objects to
the Harvard Library Digital Repository Service. We seek an individual possessing careful attention to
detail, clear communication, flexibility, and proficiency and enjoyment working independently and in
teams. 


The Harvard Law School Library promotes collaboration, innovation of processes and procedures, and

provide open access to the library’s world-class collections. This position requires an MLS (archives
concentration preferred) completed or in progress. Preference will be given to applicants with
processing experience (internship experience qualifies), experience working with ArchivesSpace,
knowledge of EAD, an interest in digitization workflows and digital collections, and experience handling
special collections materials.


This is a part-time temporary non-benefited position, 14 hours per week through June 2023, with the
possibility for an extension contingent upon continued funding.
  
Salary: $19.00 per hour
