Reference & Local History Librarian, Hamilton-Wenham Public Library, Hamilton, MA

Description:

·         Assist primarily at the Reference desk and other public services desks as needed
·         Provide reference, reader’s advisory and information services on-site, online and by telephone, following standard principles and practices and the policies of the library
·         Handle reserve requests and interlibrary loan requests
·         In collaboration with the Library Director and the Head of Reference, works to manage the Local History collection. Major focus on collection development plan and policy, management of digitization projects, microfilm, proper storage and preservation, and ongoing process of organizing the local history collection for public enjoyment and research
·         Works with the Library Director to prepare grants and recommend materials for on-going historical conservation and digitization
·         Works to create programs and services in support of local history research and community celebration. Looks for opportunities to collaborate with community groups who share this focus
·         Perform online searches and assist patrons with technology, computers, printing, copying and scanning
·         Answer inquiries regarding library procedures, functions, upcoming events, and services
·         Check materials in and out, register new borrowers, assist patrons with museum pass requests
·         Shelve library materials and maintain proper order in collections by shelf reading

Qualifications

Master of Library Science Degree from an ALA accredited university or MLS enrolled student
One or more years of relevant education or experience in preservation and archives management
Knowledge of library methods, procedures, and materials. Experience with downloadable media, internet/browsers, and proficiency in Microsoft Office necessary
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.   Ability to maintain good public relations and deal with members of the public in a pleasant and courteous manner.  Ability to prioritize tasks.
