The Middlebury College Library is seeking an experienced and innovative archivist to join the department of Special Collections and Archives. The ideal candidate will be confident in their knowledge of traditional archival best practices while taking an expansive view of how inclusive collecting and reparative cataloging can help to confront legacies of the past and further the teaching and research goals of Middlebury.

Position Summary

The College Archivist serves as the recognized subject expert of the College’s Archives and manages the accessioning, arrangement, and description of archival and manuscript materials in all formats and administers the College’s records management program. The College Archivist hires and supervises student employees and interns, and trains staff and students to process analog and digital materials according to national and local standards.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director and Curator of Special Collections, the College Archivist is an integral member of the Special Collections team, which partners with College community members to collect, describe, administer, preserve, and make accessible materials of enduring historic value pertaining to the history of Middlebury College. These include records of Middlebury administration; academic departments and initiatives; faculty; students, student organizations, and alumni; campus activities and events; and Middlebury’s relationships with the local county, the state of Vermont, and the world.
