Assistant Manager for Resource Sharing, Tisch Library, Tufts University, Medford, MA

Tisch Library is a student-centered research library, dedicated to the support of teaching,  earning, and scholarship in Tufts’ School of Arts & Sciences and School of Engineering. We provide collections, subject expertise, and technology-rich research and learning environments, with a variety of services and programs to meet the information needs of our students, faculty, and staff. The Access Services Department ensures timely and effective access to library collections, facilities and services, managing circulation, reserves, basic reference, interlibrary loan, stack management, printing and scanning.

Reporting to the Head of Access Services, the Assistant Manager for Resource Sharing is responsible for providing leadership and management for interlibrary loan, scanning services, streaming media, controlled digital lending, and physical and electronic course reserves, and provides proactive services to support the academic, professional and extracurricular success of Tufts’ diverse student and faculty population. The Assistant Manager oversees these services for Tisch, Lilly, and the SMFA, collaborating with colleagues throughout all Tufts Libraries, related consortial communities, and other institutions to identify and implement innovative discovery-to-delivery services and service improvements. The Assistant Manager for Resource Sharing is a member of the public services leadership team.

Essential responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership for all resource sharing services and the continued evolution of a user-centered, integrated service model at the Information Desk.
  • Manages all resource sharing services, including interlibrary loan, document delivery, “scan & deliver,” course reserves, streaming media and controlled digital lending.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Manager, Frontline Services, builds an effective training and development program for student staff in Access Services.
  • Manages budget and financial transactions for Resource Sharing services, including billing and invoicing for Interlibrary Loan.
  • Oversees Resource Sharing data collection and assists with analysis.
  • Represents Tufts on the Boston Library Consortium Heads of Resource Sharing Committee.
  • Maintains up-to-date documentation of policies and procedures.
  • Supervises 3.6 FTE Library Assistants in Streaming Media, Course Reserves, Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery and up to 35 student assistants.
  • Represents department locally and nationally by participating in workshops, conferences and training programs.
  • Participates in library teams, task forces and committees.

Basic Requirements:

  • Knowledge and experience typically acquired by Bachelor’s degree
  • Two years’ experience working in a library setting, specifically involving course reserves or interlibrary loan duties
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership for the delivery of excellent services to a diverse clientele
  • Ability to develop, implement, and assess services and programs that advance organizational goals
  • Commitment to fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably, orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Experience with resource sharing software and tools, including Alma, ILLiad, Rapid, IDS Logic, Leganto, and WorldShare
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary issues in resource sharing
  • Project management experience
  • Evidence of commitment to ongoing professional development and contribution to the library profession

Salary Range:  $51,400 – $70,000
