Digital Literacy Instruction Librarian, Brandeis University, Waltham, MA

As part of a collaborative team, the Digital Literacy Instruction Librarian supports library and campus efforts in developing students’ digital literacy skills. Particular focus is placed on consulting with faculty on the development of multi-modal assignments, instruction for courses completing digital scholarship projects, and library activities to support Brandeis general education requirements.

Job Description

Collaborates with faculty, library colleagues, and campus partners to support student skill development in digital literacy and digital scholarship: 50%

  • Provides course-integrated instruction, workshops, and consultations on digital literacy and digital scholarship topics.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff around developing multi-modal assignments which require students to evaluate the validity of digital sources and present research in a digital format.
  • Develops online instructional materials and modules covering digital literacy and research skills.
  • Communicates regularly with faculty, staff, and students to promote library services and resources.

In collaboration with colleagues, actively contributes to: 30%

  • general research help services to students, faculty, staff, and researchers.
  • instruction for workshops and classes outside of liaison areas, including University Writing Seminars.
  • special projects and outreach activities, including orientation. 

Participates in and contributes to committees and work groups of the Library and the University. 10%

Furthers knowledge and stays current on digital literacy and digital scholarship topics through: 10%

  • participating in, and/or contributing to trainings, conferences, webinars, and other types of professional development.
  • maintaining knowledge of best practices, developments, and trends.

Requirements

Graduate degree or equivalent education & experience, required plus 1-3 years of total related work experience

Facility with a range of tools and applications commonly used in multi-modal assignments and digital projects, such as tools for mapping, digital presentation of research, text analysis,

Experience with or demonstrated commitment to developing inclusive and equitable learning experiences

Experience in an academic setting that demonstrates engagement with departmental constituencies and innovative collaboration on teaching and research activities.

Understanding of research and teaching needs of faculty and students.

Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

This Digital Literacy Instruction Librarian is primarily an on-site position, with the option to work from home one day per week.

The hiring range for this position is $64,300 – 73,300.
