Diversity Resident Librarian, Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA

Description:

Drexel University Libraries is a new member of the ACRL Diversity Alliance program. The purpose of the Diversity Resident Program is to increase the number of qualified professional library staff from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. Individuals in this role will benefit from strong mentorship and professional development opportunities. This program provides an opportunity for entry-level librarians from diverse backgrounds to begin their professional careers and develop skills and experience in academic librarianship. The Libraries is committed to the value of inclusion and supports the University’s diversity priority (https://drexel.edu/oed/diversity/overview/). All Libraries’ staff work to promote, support and sustain an environment of diversity, equality, fairness, inclusion, and respect. The Libraries’ Diversity Resident will spend the first year of the residency becoming familiar with the Libraries’ operations and services through rotating program assignments while participating on the Libraries’ DEI Working Group and contributing expertise across the Libraries’ matrixed programs.  By the end of the first, largely introductory year, the Resident will be prepared to propose a specific contribution/project and program emphasis for each of the subsequent two years of the residency. Project objectives will include both professional growth as well as Libraries’ deliverable to undertake.

The wide range of work experience gained through this position will enable the Resident to build essential skills and plan career path options after the residency. The Resident will enrich the Libraries by bringing new ideas and perspectives, contributing to projects and strategic initiatives, and support our commitment to building a diverse workforce and fostering diversity in the profession.
