Electronic Resources Librarian, Assistant/Associate Professor, Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, IL

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Library and Information Services invites applications from dynamic, proactive, and service-oriented candidates for the position of Electronic Resources Librarian. Reporting to the Interim Dean, the Electronic Resources Librarian (ERL} will successfully manage the operations for acquiring, licensing and accessing all electronic resources, including trials for prospective purchases. The ERL is responsible for electronic resource data analysis and dissemination. This position provides leadership in developing, documenting, and implementing policies and procedures related to electronic resources, creates and communicates cost analysis, and communicates with vendors. In addition, the ERL manages user access to electronic resources using Exlibris Alma/Primo VE, and resolves access problems, responds directly to user inquiries, and performs troubleshooting and regular maintenance, and coordinates user communication with subject liaisons.

Working closely with the Acquisitions LOA, Business Administrative Associate, and Access, Discovery, & Systems librarians, the Electronic Resources Librarian will chair the Collections Analysis and Strategy Committee (or any successor committee}. This committee works with all library faculty in acquiring and managing purchased and open access resources and in compiling and analyzing usage data.

The successful applicant will be required to participate in the University’s mandatory tenure and promotion review process that assesses, on a yearly basis, each individual’s performance in teaching (librarianship), professional service (LIS, university, regional, or national), and scholarly research (related to librarianship and information science and/or other area chosen by the individual).

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.L.S. from an American Library Association-accredited library/information school;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of acquisitions related to electronic resources and familiarity with selection, budgeting, vendors and other content providers;
  • Knowledge of and practical experience with all aspects of the electronic resources’ lifecycle and management.
  • Knowledge or coursework in licensing and managing access to electronic resources;
  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially in a production-oriented environment;
  • Strong service commitment, through teamwork and responsiveness to clients.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience in an academic library.
  • Working knowledge of the Ex Libris Alma/primo VE integrated library system/discovery platform;
  • Working knowledge of the Springshare suite of library applications;
  • Working knowledge of EBSCO’s OpenAthens access management service;
  • Familiarity with electronic resource management applications or software;
  • Experience with scholarly communication and library publishing trends
