Children’s Librarian (part-time), Public LIbrary of Brookline, Brookline, MA

Description:

The Brookline Public Library is seeking a part-time Children’s Librarian I with teen/tween experience to perform professional and administrative work providing reference, reader’s advisory, program operation, department administration, and other library services to children, teens/tweens, their parents, and teachers. Assist the Supervisor of Children’s Services in providing training and supervision to youth services staff. Assist the public in the use of a wide range of print and non-print library materials, including, but not limited to: video games, gaming systems, makerspace technology, PC, tablet, and laptop support, ROKUS, Wi-Fi hotspots, Launchpads. Brookline Village Main Library. May be asked to work at other locations as needed. Perform similar or related work as required.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an ALA accredited library school. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a strong commitment to public service essential. Current and thorough IT skills, proficient in multiple social media platforms. One year of library work experience with youth (teen/tween). Knowledge of automated library systems and related applications. Knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, forms, and equipment. Knowledge of e-readers, e-books, and ability to troubleshoot various technologies. Knowledge of other languages is a plus. Working knowledge of internet, social media trends and strategies.

Starting salary $28.45/hr., up to 18.25 hours per week.
