Archives Summer Intern, Association of American Medical Colleges, Washington DC

The Archives Summer Intern will work on two collections in our digital asset management system. The individual holding this position will be updating the COVID-19 collection and creating the AAMC News collection. The COVID-19 collection documents the AAMC’s work during the COVID-19 pandemic and includes Rapid Response Team (RRT) meeting notes, newsletters, webpages, virtual press conferences, publications and more. The AAMC News collection will be a collection of news articles from the AAMC News & Insights page on www.aamc.org.

The AAMC Reference Center and Mary H. Littlemeyer Archives is a service to AAMC staff and members of the public.  Reference Center staff provide reference, research, and access to current and historical collections in order to assist in leading the academic medicine community to improve the health of all.   Our Archives collection ensures documentation of the Association: its origin, development, policies, and activities.

Development Opportunities:

  • The individual holding this position will learn how to use our digital asset management to system, CONTENTdm, to update one digital collection and create another.
  • Knowing how to use a digital asset management system is an important and useful skill for archivists to have.
  • The individual will also learn how a small special library and archives works.
  • This position will be supervised by a certified archivist.  

Responsibilities:

  • In this position, you will do some training to learn how to use CONTENTdm, prepare the digital files and upload them to CONTENTdm.  You will then create the metadata for each item and approve and index them so they will be added to the AAMC Digital Collections.  For the AAMC News collection they will have to create the collection in CONTENTdm before uploading the digital files.

Qualifications: 

  • Attention to detail and good verbal and written skills are required. We are seeking a student enrolled in a library science/archives or history graduate program. Some archival coursework and experience with digital asset management systems is preferred.
