The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory, Inc., is seeking an experienced professional to serve in a full-time, benefitted position as Corporate Archivist. Draper is a nonprofit engineering innovation company serving our nation’s interests and security needs and advancing technologies at the intersection of government, academia, and industry. Reporting to the Records and Information Manager within Draper’s legal department, the successful candidate will be an energetic and highly motivated individual, who can work collaboratively and independently to revive, improve upon, and expand a dormant archives program. The successful candidate will also play a key role in support of Draper’s 50 th  anniversary, in 2023.


Responsibilities:
• Build subject matter expertise in the history of the corporation and provide reference services
• Accession, appraise, and process corporate record and object collections in multiple formats, creating finding aids and ensuring collection access
• Determine descriptive metadata schema and maintain a descriptive database of historical holdings
• Review and select physical and digital repositories and descriptive software, in conjunction with archival standards and best practices
• In collaboration with corporate communications department, assist in the creation and release of historical products for Draper’s upcoming 50 th  anniversary in 2023 (timelines, physical and virtual exhibits, oral histories, historical news features);
• Preserve records in enduring digital formats and hardware that will best enable longevity of content; convert historical digital collections from legacy formats to stable ones
• Develop and maintain a corporate archives appraisal policy
• Catalog technical reports and papers
• Present on Corporate Archives activities and historical Draper topics, raising visibility and appreciation of Draper’s history among employees
• Curate Draper’s historically significant artifacts and objects
• Maintain and report on processing, reference and use statistics related to the archives
• Support emerging knowledge management and capture efforts
• Support records management and legal department activities as needed


Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or related field with a concentration in Archival Management
• Thorough knowledge of archival principles and issues such as descriptive standards and preservation
• Minimum of two years’ experience processing historical collections, including digital collections

• Experience providing reference services for archival collections
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are critical for this position
• Work experience in a science and technology institution or corporation is preferred but not required
• Thorough familiarity with digital preservation principles and best practices
• Familiarity with ArchivesSpace, Archivists’ Toolkit, Preservica, and/or other leading archival management and digital preservation utilities; knowledge to configure archival management environment
• Able to lift 50 lb. boxes
• Strong comfort level with Microsoft Windows OS environment 
• Certified Archivist desirable but not required
• Minimum 3 days per week working in the office/on site is required
• Eligibility to obtain a U.S. Government Secret clearance is required
