Office Overview
Students Support Services (S3) at MIT provides advice and advocacy for students and acts as a hub of resources, referrals, and information across the MIT Community. The mission of S3 is to promote the academic success and holistic experience of students by providing comprehensive and personal support to undergraduate students.


Term of Appointment
The position will run from approximately June preceding the fall semester to the end of the following May. This is a 16-hour per week position to fulfill requirements for practicum experience. This is an unpaid position, however, the student will receive a $500 per semester stipend to help offset the cost of travel to campus. The practicum student may receive academic credit if approved by their graduate program. Flexibility in scheduling both in terms of hours and dates is possible. This position may require occasional nights or weekends with advanced notice.


Position Description
The practicum student will work closely with the members of the S3 team to provide both individual support and group programming to students who access our services. Group facilitation and presentations will be developed in partnership with various members of the S3 team. The practicum student will work with the S3 team on creating and managing an active, well-being focused social media presence for the office.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Student Support Services practicum student will assist in:

  • Individual student support through the S3 Drop-In system and the s3-support portal
  • Co-facilitating returning students support groups for students coming back from leaves
  • Serving as co-Connector for a residence hall in the S3 Connector Program
  • Serving as member of the ARM Coalition
  • Creating and facilitating targeted psychoeducational groups and/or workshops within S3 and the broader Office of Student Support and Wellbeing
  • Attending S3 staff meetings
  • Attending regular practicum supervision meetings
  • May be assigned special projects as needed or interested

Qualifications
Graduate student status at an accredited institution of higher education is required. Individuals from Higher Education, Educational Leadership, Student Affairs, College Student Development, Educational Policy, Social Work, Clinical Psychology or related fields are preferred. We are seeking someone who is comfortable working effectively with campus partners and students. Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work in a team setting are required, as well as experience in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
