Thayer Academy seeks a full-time Upper School (grades 9-12) Librarian for the upcoming
2022-2023 school year. Thayer Academy’s mission is “to inspire a diverse community of

The Upper School Librarian works as a member of the Southworth Library team to provide
the school community with exceptional research support and superior programming. The
ideal candidate will have a passion for working with adolescents, strong organizational and
interpersonal skills, a passion for collaboration, and experience working in a diverse
community.


In order to provide exceptional service to our students and community, the Upper School
librarian works with the team to provide after school coverage in the library until 6:00 pm
on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and until 4:00 pm on Wednesday and Friday.


Roles & Responsibilities
● Cultivates collaborative relationships with faculty and staff
● Provides research support to students through one-on-one research appointments
● Participates in the evaluation and maintenance of the library’s collection of print and
electronic resources, in support of students’ academic and personal interests
● Stays current with trends in library services and instruction
● Supervises the library and maintains an atmosphere that supports both
collaboration and individual study
● Provides readers’ advisory to students and faculty as requested
● Develops and supports programs that engage members of the Thayer community
● Contributes to tasks and projects related to all elements of the library program
● Creates monthly newsletters to inform and engage the Thayer community
● Maintains an active social media presence
● Commitment to ongoing professional development


Qualifications
● Degree in Library or Information Sciences or another related field of study is
preferred
● Passion for working with adolescents

● Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community
● Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
practices in the classroom, in curriculum, and in relationships with members of the
school community
● High level of comfort and experience with technology in a educational setting
● Willingness to work on a team in a collaborative department
● Ability to communicate effectively with students, their families, and colleagues
