Access Services Resource Sharing Assistant (Temporary), Harvard University, Cambridge, MA

Under the direction of the Resource Sharing Manager and as a member of the Access Services team, the Access Services Resource Sharing Assistant is responsible for facilitating the borrowing and lending of library materials on behalf of Harvard patrons, as well as facilitating access to Harvard Library collections for use by other institutions worldwide.

The Resource Sharing office is located in Widener Library, but this position is to be performed remotely.

Access Services supports the Harvard Library mission by delivering a high standard of service; cultivating a welcoming environment that is supportive of academic research and inquiry; stewarding the university collection; and connecting the academic community to the vast array of library resources. We support the teaching and scholarly mission of the University through collaborative partnerships with the community of students, scholars and professionals at Harvard and beyond.

Access Services staff members are expected to provide services at the highest level of patron satisfaction while utilizing best practices to meet patron needs. Additionally, Access Services staff members are committed to delivering high-quality customer service; timely access to collections; maintaining the integrity and security of library resources and materials; and accommodating user needs in accordance with the priorities and objectives of the Harvard Library.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews, updates, and processes interlibrary loan and scan requests using ILL software (ILLiad)
  • Physically processes incoming and outgoing loan and scan requests
  • Assists with the training and direction of student employees
  • Uses the integrated library system (e.g., ALMA) to request library materials for ILL purposes
  • Assists in triage of departmental email (e.g., LibAnswers)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience showing attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of Windows environment required
  • Must be energetic, flexible, and team oriented.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a high paced environment and work productively in a team environment with minimal supervision
  • Sensitivity to working in a diverse user environment
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and bibliographic data preferred
  • Knowledge of integrated library systems, OCLC, online catalogs, bibliographic databases and Resource Sharing software and associated tools preferred
