POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Public Services Librarian, the Reference Librarian provides professional reference services primarily for adults in person, by telephone, and through e-mail; Creates and implements programs; Coordinates deposit collections at area nursing/rest homes and explores new locations for deposit collections; Assists with community outreach by representing and promoting library services and programs in person at local events and via social media.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Provide professional library reference services for patrons at public service desks, on the phone, and by email including reader’s advisory, research using microfilm and other reference resources, teaching the use of databases and other digital content, and more;
• Conduct collection development in assigned areas;
• Create displays, bibliographies, and other methods to promote the library’s collection;
• Plan, schedule, create and manage programming for adults with the assistance of the adult services librarians;
• Work with the children’s and teen services librarians to support them in creating programs based on the needs and interests of the youth they serve;
• Assist with grant writing;
• Use social media to interact with the community and promote library services;
• Help publicize all library programs and services by writing press releases and promotional items;
• Promote the library through the use of social media and in person at events in the city;
• Contribute to the library newsletter and website;
• Assist in publicizing all library programs and services;
• Participate in committees and attends trainings within CW MARS (our consortium), and state, regional and national associations;
• Perform other similar and/or related duties, as required or as situation dictates

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s Degree in Library Science with some professional experience working with adults in a public library setting;
• Valid Class D driver’s license and reliable vehicle;
• Extensive knowledge of library technology products, including but not limited to the Internet, online databases.
• Working knowledge of computer applications for library services such as Evergreen or another ILS, Microsoft Windows products, Canva, Google docs and sheets, Constant Contact, etc.;
• Comfortable using a variety of technology including computers, printers, photocopiers and general office
equipment;

Must possess:
o Familiarity with adult library materials;
o Strong communication skills;
o Professional appearance and demeanor;
o Flexibility and be adaptable to change;
o Ability to work effectively with the general public and co-workers

• Demonstrate the required skills and the ability to perform all work assigned by successfully completing a six (6) month probationary period;
• Must successfully complete pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check;
• Bilingual in English and Spanish highly desirable.

$49,764.00 – $62,088.00  /  year

Salary Notes

Hiring Range $49,764 – $52,884 Commensurate w/experience & qualifications/FLSA/Salary Exempt
