Job Summary

The Information Assistance Librarian provides discipline related expertise primarily at the undergraduate level with specialized knowledge in any of the theoretical, applied, physical or life sciences. The Librarian, while not assigned to a particular academic department, has subject expertise in information resources and tools, pedagogy and research, and collaboratively contributes to the Libraries’ matrixed programs in Information Assistance, Curricula Support and Scholarly Connections.

Essential Functions

  • Inspire self-directed learning by providing personal guidance and client-customized consultation through in-person, chat, phone, email, and event service venues.
  • Collaborate with other librarians, faculty and students to help integrate knowledge of multiple literacies, information resources, and information-seeking behaviors into Drexel‘s curriculum learning.
  • Develop resources that guide and assist clients to find, access, evaluate, and use information; proactively contribute to strengthening the Libraries’ culture of diversity, equity and inclusiveness.
  • Apply disciplinary knowledge and expertise in supporting selection and acquisition decisions for scholarly content, including selection of materials for licensing and procurement, as well as resource sharing services and client self-directed use of web-hosted information.
  • Actively foster relationships with faculty, staff and students to contribute to the Libraries’ communication and marketing program and to its continual service quality improvement efforts; contribute professionally through external service, publications, or presentations.

Required Qualifications

  • A Master’s Degree in Library & information science is required.
  • 3 years of Experience is required.
  • Undergraduate degree, graduate coursework, and/or professional experience in any of the theoretical, applied, physical or life sciences
  • Demonstrated knowledge of science information resources, tools, and scholarly trends
  • Demonstrated knowledge of science pedagogy and current instructional techniques
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong customer service orientation and commitment to inclusiveness of diverse ideas and perspectives
  • Evidence of self-motivation to address new challenges, ability to solve problems with minimal supervision and commitment to learn new knowledge and skills
  • Familiar with current and emerging technologies and trends in academic libraries and scholarly communications
  • Excellent organizational skills, including time and project management
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment; able to lead as well as execute and take constructive input from multiple sources
  • Demonstrated involvement and contribution to the profession through service, presentations, or publications
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive and welcoming work environment in both physical and cyber spaces

Preferred Qualifications                                  

  • Advanced degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or Computer or Data Science.
