MITRE’s Information Services department is seeking a Research/Information Analyst to join our team of dedicated research professionals at the InfoDesk, MITRE’s corporate information desk.

The InfoDesk is focused on chasing down answers to difficult questions, pulling together high-quality information in response to research requests, and fielding requests for documents and e-books. Staff relish the diversity of research topics and the opportunity for challenging work.

The successful candidate will split his/her time between supporting MITRE’s six Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs) and the JASON Program office, which manages and oversees the activities of the JASON Advisory Group. JASON is a highly select, independent group of academic scientists that advises the United States government on matters of science and technology, particularly on matters relating to national security.

Candidate must be willing to relocate to the JASON program location in La Jolla, CA, a beach town outside San Diego, for JASON sessions during the months of January and June through August. Travel reimbursement for the candidate and his/her immediate family as well as a housing allowance and per diem are available.

Candidate may work a hybrid schedule combining telework with 2-3 days per week in the McLean, VA office required. Candidate must be willing to work 100% onsite in La Jolla while JASON program is in session.

InfoDesk (30-40%)

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide ready reference and research support, and leverage MITRE expertise through regular duty at the corporate information desk
  • Respond to virtual and face-to-face information requests using the full range of available resources
  • Compile citations and identify articles on various topics, technologies, or industries for awareness and research purposes
  • Provide training on digital library resources

JASON Program (60-70%)

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide ready reference and research support
  • Coordinate document delivery from source identification to purchasing to bill payment
  • Proofread scientific technical reports
  • Manage and organize JASON library of reports
  • Pitching in on “all hands on deck” activities in a face-paced environment when JASON is in session

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to formulate complex search strategies; to search and locate information from various sources; to summarize and synthesize findings; and to place findings in context
  • Excellent customer service skills including an aptitude for understanding and anticipating customer needs and the ability to develop and maintain relationships with clients
  • Understanding of the research process and workflow
  • Proficiency with search engines and the Microsoft Office suite
  • Demonstrate attention to detail with solid command of grammar and spelling
  • Capable of working with frequent interruptions and able to pivot between tasks as priorities change
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across level and function
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and to effectively build partnerships
  • Commitment to continuous learning and able to learn new technologies quickly
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve problems in a resourceful and timely manner
  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MIS/MLS/MLIS or related degree or enrollment in library school program
  • 2 years of library experience in reference and document delivery
  • Experience serving as a librarian in a corporate, government, or academic organization supporting engineers and other highly technical professionals
  • Knowledge of specialized information resources and databases in engineering, information technology (IT), health care/medicine, business, market research, military/defense, and/or government
  • Mastery of the reference interview
  • Knowledge of copyright policies and law
  • Copyediting experience
  • Proficiency with social media applications and SharePoint
