Essential Functions:
The essential functions of the duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. •Manages all aspects of the daily operation of the Technical Services area, including the receiving, cataloging, and processing of library materials and attaching records in the MVLC database. May include
the creation of brief MARC records.
•Preserves and maintains the Library’s physical collection to be accessible and appealing to readers,
including mending of materials.
•Works with the MVLC Network to ensure the Library complies with network lending agreements and
metadata standards. Works with the Director to develop local policies that maximize public access to
library collections.
•Exhibits a thorough knowledge of materials acquisitions, including the use of print and electronic
resources.
•Evaluates and develops the collection in cooperation with selectors and as assigned and tracks budget
expenditures.
•Collaborates with other staff to identify, evaluate, and invest in new technologies and collections for
delivering library content. Participates in strategic planning regarding collections access.
•Maintains the Library’s magazine and newspaper collection; submits approved orders and cancellations
for all subscriptions, submits claims for undelivered issues, and maintains an accurate list of all current
periodical subscriptions received throughout the Library checks in magazine and newspaper issues
received.
•Assists with the cataloging of the Local History collection.
•Prepares monthly and annual department reports and creates and analyzes statistical reports as needed.
•Inventories and reports technical services supply needs.
• Assists at public service desks as assigned.
•Provides leadership in helping to achieve the Library’s goals, including, but not limited to, reading
professional material, attending workshops and meetings, leading groups, and serving as a professional,
positive role model.


Requirements:
• A Master’s Degree in Library Science in a program accredited by the American Library Association and
a minimum of 3 years of professional experience.
• Candidates with experience with Sirsi-Dynix are preferred by not required.
• Knowledge of regional, state, national, and international library standards and rules.
• Knowledge of MARC cataloging, AACR2, RDA, Library of Congress Subject Headings, and the Dewey
Decimal System.

• Previous cataloging experience preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues, successfully manage projects, identify workflow
inefficiencies, and develop/implement systems and procedures to improve efficiency and provide
better service.
• Ability to work as a team member and independently.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills, friendly manner, and strong service orientation.
• Good organizational skills, attention to detail, procedures, and follow-up capabilities.
• Work effort principally involved sitting to perform work tasks, with intermittent periods of stooping,
kneeling, walking, and standing. There may be the occasional lifting of objects such as books, office
equipment, or supplies (up to 50lbs).
