Library Futures Community Fellow (remote/Boston)

Title: Library Futures Community Fellow
Position Type: Fellowship
Stipend: $4,000/month + $2,000 travel (if safe to do so) or conference budget
Hours/week: 20-25 hours/week for 6 months
Location: Remote, with supervision in Boston

Library Futures is seeking to hire our first Community Fellow to energize our 30+ institution coalition and help create models for community sustainability and accountability in service of our mission of equitable access to knowledge. Together with our Executive Director, you will conduct research and craft a plan for global engagement for knowledge institutions and individuals of all types. 

We’re looking for a self-motivated and highly collaborative person with a great sense of humor. Flexibility, kindness, creativity, a positive attitude, and focus on the big picture – with an attention to detail – are key to success in this role. 

Your relevant skills and experience:

  • Background in librarianship and/or community organizing. MLS preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of or interest in the digital lending environment, copyright, vendor negotiations, and other library issues as reflected in the Library Futures principles.
  • Experience with stakeholder management (partner relationships), community engagement, and group facilitation.
  • Empathetic listener, thoughtful collaborator.
  • Experience in leading successful student or work projects to completion and presenting them to a broad audience.

Additional Details:

  • This position may be of interest to recent graduates from an MLS program and/or people with experience working in community movements or nonprofits
  • This is a grant-funded position

  • Library Futures is fully remote, with operations in Boston and Maine. Applicants must be available within 3 hours of EST
