Our new library facility opened in 2012 and covers 9957 square feet, all in one level, dedicated rooms for adults, children, babies and teens, as well as 2 meetings rooms, a study room and a kitchen. The library collection consists of over 26,000 physical print items in addition to electronic resources and public use computers. The solar powered library has beautiful and flexible outdoor facilities that are perfect for programs or mindful moments on the fitness trail, story walk, or one of the beautiful herb, flower, butterfly and children’s gardens. KCL’s gardens are created and maintained by the Friends of the Library

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The following functions are considered essential to this position. The following is indicative of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position, but are not intended to be all-inclusive.

·         Responsible for Children’s Services including “Summer Reading,” story times, and other children’s programming.

·         Oversees the general maintenance of the children’s book collection including collection development, weeding, shelf reading, and inventory.

·         Assists patrons on the selection of reading materials appropriate for diverse age groups.

·         Creates dynamic displays and promotional materials to encourage reading and children’s room use.

·         Contributes information about children’s services through library newsletter, social media, and other marketing outlets.

·         Responsible for developing a library makerspace and related programming.

·         Works with area agencies serving children to improve children’s library services and support community needs. Serves as a liaison between the Library and elementary schools, caregivers, and home-schoolers.

·         Supervises library staff and volunteers who are working to support children’s services.

·         Uses the library catalog to support reader’s advisory and to check out children’s room materials.

·         Provides statistical information related to programs and other job duties to the Library Director.

·         Assists patrons with children’s room computers.

·         Participates in and represents the Kingston Community Library in local and regional professional organizations. Stays up-to-date on trends and improvements in children’s library services. Attends CLNH events.

·         Must be able to push or pull carts, do a moderate amount of bending, squatting and lifting, stretching and standing for extended periods of time.

·         May be asked to periodically attend Trustees and Friends meetings to keep them abreast of services.

·         Performs any and all other related duties as needed.

Experience and Skills Required:

A Bachelor’s degree is required. Library supervisory experience and an MLS is preferred. Knowledge of basic computer use and word processing. Requires a thorough knowledge of children’s literature. Knowledge of library catalogs. Ability to develop and implement innovative children’s programs and exhibits. Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with minimal supervision.

pay range $37,000-42,000/ annually depending on experience
