Assistant Professor/Librarian (Full-Time), Johnson County Community College, Overland Park, KS

Description:

JCCC’s Billington Library is seeking a full-time librarian to coordinate all library marketing, programming, outreach, and reference services.

Librarians at JCCC are faculty members of the Bargaining Unit, are eligible for a continuing contract after 3 years, and receive generous benefits — including participation in the Kansas Public Employee Retirement System (KPERS).

  • Ability to establish, arrange, and create programming within the library within our newly renovated Presentation and Event space, including films, concerts, readings, reading clubs, speakers and performers, and other special events.
  • Ability to create co-curricular and community partnerships to organize events and activities that actively engage faculty, staff, and students across both campus and the larger community, often in collaboration with other campus entities.
  • Ability to promote programs via publicity releases, flyers, social media, and any other platforms.
  • Ability to assess programming based on its fulfillment of augmenting our library and college’s mission, values, student learning outcomes, and institutional learning outcomes.
  • Ability to maintain and cultivate contacts with the general community, schools, other libraries, and city employees to advance library outreach opportunities.

Outreach and Marketing:

  • Ability to provide focused and directed outreach towards instructional faculty and departmental needs.
  • Ability to provide relevant, focused outreach towards instructional faculty and/or departmental needs.
  • Experience working with academics and instructional faculty.
  • Ability to create displays and marketing materials to promote library resources and services.

Reference:

  • Ability to coordinate the myriad ways we provide reference within our new physical space and virtual spaces.
  • Ability to review and establish procedure and best practices for reference service within the new library space.
  • Ability to design and implement co-curricular reference activities, often in collaboration with other campus entities.

General:

  • Knowledge of and experience with major trends in higher education, and community colleges more specifically.
  • Commitment to professional development by keeping current in their respective area of librarianship.
  • Ability to maintain faculty and librarian credentials as required by the college’s accrediting agencies.
  • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that result in clear communication of library, information literacy, and knowledge management principles to library users.
  • Ability to fulfill all requirements as stated in college policies and procedures, including mandatory training.
  • Ability to attend and participate in all required meetings and exercise stewardship in the use of college facilities and materials.
  • Ability to submit information or materials related to their assigned duties as requested by college administrators or peers in a timely manner.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and stakeholders from across the college and the community in order to create, preserve, and enhance important partnerships.
  • Ability to provide support for both adjunct and full-time colleagues in the form of consultation and cooperation and to work as an effective team member.
  • Ability to treat all members of the college community with dignity and respect demonstrating professional, courteous behavior and engage in constructive conflict resolution, when needed.
